KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi Taib, made a visit to the Satok Ramadan Bazaar here on Thursday (March 14).

They arrived at the location at around 3pm before strolling through the entire area, which boasted approximately 80 food and beverage stalls offering a variety of options.

Delighted by the array of food offerings, Wan Junaidi expressed his eagerness to try out the diverse range of delicacies available.

Wan Junaidi speaking to media.

When asked about his wife’s favourite, who hails from the Peninsular, he responded with enthusiasm, saying that she has developed a fondness for Sarawakian delicacies since their time together.

“With me, there’s nothing quite like ‘bubur pedas’ (a traditional porridge dish), ‘tapai’ (fermented glutinous rice), and ‘sotong tutok’ (dried cuttlefish).

“These are quintessentially local delights, especially the ‘tapai’, which we bought a moment ago,” he told the media.

He further reminisced about the tradition of ‘sotong tutuk’ in Sarawak, recalling its popularity since the 1980s and 1990s, particularly during the fasting month.

“In the villages, ‘sotong tutuk’ is typically sold only near the fasting month, and it’s all hand-hammered without the use of machines.

“The sambal accompanying it must be special, but in Sarawak, it’s not overly spicy. I know a stall selling it in Jalan Astana,” he shared.

Meanwhile, his wife also indulged in the local delicacies, saying that ‘bubur pedas’ is a must-buy among their purchases.

They were accompanied by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; and Kuching North City Hall mayor Hilmy Othman.
