Search mounted for man feared drowned in Kg Pasir Pandak waters

KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched to locate a man who is feared drowned after a boat he was in allegedly capsized in Kampung Pasir Pandak waters this afternoon (Jan 26).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Petra Jaya station were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at around 12.30 pm.

According to a witness, a man wearing a black shirt had boarded a boat from Kampung Pasir Pandak waters to head out towards the sea at Sedungus Salak.

Several minutes later, the witness saw the victim’s boat floating upside down in the middle of the sea.

Later, it disappeared from sight and only an object believed to be a black box was seen floating in the waters.

Authorities are currently at the scene to gather information and commenced the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
