KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched to locate a 62-year-old man who was reported missing at an oil palm plantation at Jalan Gedong in Serian last Tuesday.

Serian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), on being informed of the case by the police at 10.40am yesterday dispatched a team of six men, led by Senior Fire Officer II Rusman, to the victim’s house, about 35km from the station to obtain further information on the case.

A Bomba spokesman said based on the information from Serian district police, the victim, Gingan Dalot, had gone fishing last Tuesday morning. When he failed to return home that evening, his family lodged a report at Serian Police Station.

The spokesman said the victim’s family members and several villagers had also searched for him and they found his motorcycle near a drain where he was believed to be fishing.

The search was called off at 6.00pm due to darkness and would resume the next morning.
