PARIS: Sarawak and Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity and its stunning landscapes are currently being showcased at the ongoing Malaysian Borneo Unveiled: Harmony of Cultures, Nature, and Adventure Exhibition here at Secur Hall.
The three-day exhibition from Mar 25 to 27 is organised by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of Malaysia to UNESCO Paris, Department of National Heritage and Sarawak Museum Department.
SFC said the exhibition is aimed at engaging delegates through vibrant displays, interactive exhibits, and discussions, highlighting the harmonious blend of diverse cultures and the natural treasures of the region.
“The primary objectives are to foster awareness and appreciation for the region’s cultural heritage, landscapes, and biodiversity, encouraging sustainable tourism practices and community involvement in conservation efforts,” SFC said in a statement.
The exhibition provides an overview of the following:
- Cultural harmony: Showcasing the vibrant blend of cultures, including indigenous tribes and influences from Malay, Chinese, Indian and other indigenous Sarawak cultures. Visitors get to explore exhibits featuring handicrafts and traditional costumes celebrating cultural diversity.
- Natural wonders: Highlighting the breathtaking landscapes of Sarawak and Malaysia, with exhibits on rainforests, beaches, and iconic landmarks. Emphasis placed on eco- tourism, wildlife conservation, and the unique biodiversity found in Borneo.
- Adventure landscapes: Showcasing adrenaline-pumping experiences in Sarawak’s national parks, featuring jungle trekking, river safaris, diving, and cave exploration.
The exhibition, is also a side event in conjunction with the 219th UNESCO executive board meeting and aligns with UNESCO’s mandate, celebrating diverse cultural heritage and promoting sustainable development through conservation efforts.
SFC said a reception to welcome up to 100 participants would also be held today (Mar 26), with Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh as the guest of honour.
