SIBU: Visually impaired people here have found a helping hand in Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew.

He donated RM3,000 to the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Society for the Visually Impaired (SBM) with the aim of helping the community here.

SBM Sarawak chairman Isak Ngau and SBM Sibu Branch chief Edmond Sumping Endam represented Lau to also present donations in the form of food baskets to 32 visually impaired people in town.

The presentation took place in front of Everwin Hypermarket.

“The caring leadership shown by YB Senator should be praised and emulated by all sections of society,” said Isak.

He added that there were about 317 visually impaired people from all over Sarawak under SBM Sarawak.

“Most of them identify as self-employed entrepreneurs, masseurs, buskers and tissue sellers. In this regard, such assistance is greatly appreciated,” Isak added.
