SELANGAU: An elderly woman has been reported missing after she failed to return home from a fishing trip behind Tr Samuli, Sungai Tau on Saturday (Jan 27).

The victim, identified as Cherurai Mukan, 74, reportedly left through the back door of her longhouse with fishing equipment around 2.15pm.

Concerns arose when longhouse folks realised that she did not return home by 5.30pm.

Residents from four longhouses initiated a search for her behind the longhouse and around an oil palm plantation, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

This prompted the victim’s family to contact the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for search and rescue (SAR) assistance.

Firemen from Tatau station were dispatched to the scene to initiate the SAR operation with a 700 square metres search radius.

At the time of writing, the search is ongoing, and Cherurai remains unaccounted for.
