TEBEDU: Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem is scheduled to visit a secondary school on Friday (March 15) to investigate reported poor conditions within the school dormitory.

According to him, the school’s principal has provided an explanation regarding the issue.

“The pictures were taken surreptitiously from the store. Tomorrow I will visit the school,” he said briefly.

Recently, a father took to his Facebook account to share screenshots of messages and photos he sent to federal Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek regarding the poor condition of the dormitory where his sons resides.

The photos depicted torn fabric wrapping the mattress, with some contents holed and scattered. Similarly, the pillow appeared dirty and spoiled.

According to a report by mStar, the 37-year-old man admitted his surprise upon witnessing the condition of the dormitory room occupied by his two sons, who are in Form One and Three.

At the time, parents were permitted to enter to inspect the hostel’s condition during the students’ registration.

“Of course, I am shocked and angry. Do you want to let the students sleep in such conditions? It doesn’t matter if the fan or mirror is broken.”

“When I see such conditions, my wife and I send new mattresses. I cannot bear to see my children sleep in such circumstances,” he expressed.

However, the father of four insists that the school should not be blamed in this regard as they have done their best.

“Only when there are insufficient funds, they (schools) are unable to do much. My purpose (of the post) is so that the Ministry of Education (MOE) will open their eyes and quickly extend assistance,” he said.

According to him, the disclosure is not meant to undermine the efforts of the teachers or accuse them of dishonesty.
