BAU: The Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) post in Serikin requires better facilities, especially in terms of water and electricity supply as well as telecommunication.

Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said these are among the key issues which had been identified for the construction of the ICQS post.

He said the Sarawak government, through the Kuching Resident Office with the appointed consultant for the project will conduct a lab session to plan a conducive infrastructure for the ICQS post in order to be on par with the Jagoi Babang Border Post (PLBN).

“Today marks a benchmark visit to PLBN Jagoi Babang, and all involved agencies, along with consultants, are with us on this visit.

“That’s why consultants must be sensitive to this (construction of the post) because this is a good benchmark.

“We don’t want to build a low-standard ICQS post as it will cause limitations in terms of operations,” he told a press conference after a visit to PLBN Jagoi Babang today (Jan 8).

He said with the completion of the ICQS post, the area would witness a huge influx of tourists between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Public Works Department (PWD) is overseeing the implementation of the RM50million project while the Kuching Resident office will act as the coordinator.

“We hope to start construction on the ICQS in 2025 or 2026 and be operational by 2027 or 2028,” Henry said.

Meanwhile, the Jagoi Babang Border Post has been operational since July last year and was officially launched in December.

Also joining the visit were Kuching Division Resident Norleha Sariff and officials from various state and federal agencies.
