SIBU: The Sarawak government will amend laws related to the Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco) during the upcoming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is to allow the local community to be equally involved in electricity projects.

“There will be a way. So we will amend the laws. So, just wait for the DUN session which will commence on Nov 20,” he said.

He said this during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) Special Sibu Convention at Kingwood Hotel here on today (Nov 5).

Abang Johari was previously reported as saying that Sarawakians should be allowed to sell excess electricity generated from solar panels at houses back to Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

He said SEB then can resell the excess power to industries that need a huge amount of energy.

“To me, we can amend the law allowing SEB to purchase excess electricity from those who uses solar to generate power,” he said.
