Fadillah delivers his speech.

KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has emphasised the importance of consistently fostering unity among the people of Sarawak, setting an example for all Sarawakians to emulate.

He said that especially during festive seasons, hosting open houses or gatherings can serve as a platform to further strengthen the relationships among each other.

“The organisation of open houses and gatherings provides an opportunity for the public to interact and foster closer ties with each other.

“Especially for residents in housing estates, they can get to know their neighbours because we know that some still do not know who their neighbours are.

“Therefore, open houses and gatherings are in line with the teachings of Islam which emphasise on strengthening of relationship and safeguarding each other’s welfare,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Madani 2024 at Taman Alamanda Indah here, on Saturday.

He also said that Islam is a religion that teaches people to love others especially among the neighbours.

“Therefore, this positive practice needs to be emphasised as it is the stand of unity in Sarawak, particularly in Kuching, which is recognised as the Unity City.

“The unity of a diverse community of different races and religions is a unique characteristic of Sarawak that attracts outsiders to experience it themselves.

“For this reason, this spirit needs to be maintained, especially among the younger generation, so that this culture can continue to be practiced,” he said.
