SARATOK: Sungai Krian, usually bustling with boat races during the day for the Kalaka Regatta, last night offered a peaceful night event featuring a decorated boat competition.

A total of seven beautifully decorated boats illuminated Sungai Krian.

Local residents and visitors did not miss the opportunity to witness the parade of colourful decorated boats.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri was also full of excitement.

“If in Kuching, there is a parade of decorated boats, in Saratok we also have decorated boats on Sungai Krian.

Alhamdulillah, even though there were only seven boats involved, we saw the seriousness of the participants in decorating their respective boats.

They deserved to be praised.

“I think this is a good start and God willing, in the future, we will hold it on a larger scale with more participants,” he said when met last night.

He explained that the organisation of the Saratok Festival and the Kalaka Regatta was lively this time.

“Every regatta, residents from nearby villages or longhouses will set up huts for shelter on the other side of Saratok … in local terms it is called langko or dango.

“It’s really bright on the other side with the solar lights and lamps that are used.

“It is also the main attraction and can be seen as an aspect of tourism during the regatta season,” he said.

Mohamad thanked all the visitors who were willing to camp in Saratok during the Kalaka Regata 2023.
