SIBU: The Sibu Division Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has a rollout plan for its vaccination programme, said Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He said that the plan aimed to vaccinate up to 70 percent or 190,000 residents by the end of August in order to obtain herd immunity.

The Nangka assemblyman said this during a live stream last Saturday.

He believed that with the rollout plan, the Covid-19 curve can be flattened even during the movement control order (MCO) which is enforced in Sarawak until June 11.

“The plan is also in line with the target to make Sarawak the first state to be fully vaccinated in August as announced by National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin last Friday,” he said.

Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said the number of residents aged 18 and above who have registered for the vaccine is still at an unsatisfactory level as of May 24.

“I ask those who have not yet registered to do so as soon as possible. Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) is now actively helping traders to register for vaccination as they cannot operate if they are not vaccinated. But traders cannot be forced to receive the vaccine if they do not want to,” he said.

Speaking on the total lockdown which will start from June 1 to June 14 announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, he said the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has not made a decision on it yet.

“We have not discussed it yet. If there is a total lockdown, the period may be shorter or longer.

“But the important thing now is that the community must continue to practice three things — wearing face masks, going out only if necessary, and frequent hand washing,” he said.
