SIBU: The long-awaited annual Sibu International BASE Jump event is making its comeback this September after two years.
Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng said the 12th edition of the event will be held from Sept 15 to 17 at Wisma Sanyan here.
“This event is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Wisma Sanyan, and Ababil Base Jump Club which is the technical advisor.
“We have received confirmation from several local and international jumpers… we will reveal the final number (of participating jumpers) on Sept 14 which is the last day of entry,” he said during a press conference held at Sibu Resident Office yesterday (July 14).
At the same time, Wong hoped that the event would position Sibu as one of the preferred destinations for extreme sports and enliven the town.
“This is well as introduce Sibu’s other attractions such as culture, customs, food and historical places,” he said.
Interested jumpers could register for the event at its website, www.sibuinternationalbasejump.com.
For the record, previous iterations of the event were participated by jumpers from several countries such as the United States, Belarus, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia, and United Kingdom.
