SIBU: The long-awaited upgrading project for the 300-metre road in front of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sibu Jaya has finally been completed.

Deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Wong Ching Yong said that the completion of this project will provide greater convenience for nearby residents’ travel, eliminating the long-standing issue of flooding during heavy rainfall.

“I have raised the need for the road upgrading in SRDC multiple times, emphasising its significant impact on the lives of local residents.

“My efforts eventually gained recognition from the Sarawak government, with an allocation of RM194,000 for the road upgrading project,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Prior to the commencement of the project, the road often experienced flooding during heavy rainfall, causing inconvenience for local residents.

However, through relentless effort and meticulous planning, the upgrading project was successfully completed within the past four days, showcasing the efficiency of the Sarawak government’s execution.

“Now, whether it’s sunny or rainy, residents can travel smoothly along this road without being hindered by flooding.

“This will not only enhance the travel experience of the residents but also promote community development and prosperity,” he said.

Wong expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion of the road upgrading project and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the SRDC and the Sarawak government.

He emphasised that the success of the project is the result of close cooperation between the government and the people, as well as a positive response to the residents’ demands.

“This road upgrading project brings convenience to SMK Sibu Jaya and demonstrates the local government’s commitment to improving the quality of residents’ lives.

“With the road’s new appearance and improved travel conditions, local residents will enjoy a smoother and more convenient travel experience,” he said.
