SIBU: Special Goods Subsidy Activities organised by Sibu Parliamentary Service Centre will likely be implemented in rural areas in the future.

According to the Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling, the programme’s implementation will benefit residents, particularly those living in longhouses and villages, allowing them to also enjoy its benefits.

“In the future, we will explore ways to implement this programme in rural areas. The current challenge in the rural areas is the lack of supermarkets to supply goods for the programme. We will assess how we can expand it beyond the city,” Ling told reporters during the Special Goods Subsidy Programme held at MDS Supermarket on Saturday (April 8).

Ling said that he had previously implemented a gas cylinders subsidy programme for rural residents. However, the program had to be temporarily suspended due to a lack of gas cylinders supply.

Furthermore, in reference to the special subsidy activities of goods in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebration, Ling said that as many as 700 sets of goods were provided for customers to enjoy, irrespective of their race.

“We’re providing goods worth RM50.80, and after subsidy, people only need to pay RM35. Additionally, people are given petrol vouchers worth RM5. We will continue this program as the response has been encouraging. It has proven to be an effective way to help people directly,” he said.

Ling also committed to implement various programs or services that can directly benefit the people.

“We are starting with a rabies vaccination program on April 14 in Taman Indah,” he said.
