
SIBU: The Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (JPBB) is ready to face any possible increase in COVID-19 positive cases after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Its chairman, Wong Hii Sieng, said his party was ready at all facilities, including the Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Center (PKRC).
“Yes, we are ready to face any possible increase in cases after the celebration. Similarly, Medan Sibu Hospital is ready to be used for that purpose.
“We (Medan Sibu Hospital) have 100 beds for the use of patients from Sibu and the central region of Sarawak,” he explained.
The Sibu Division Resident said this when met by reporters after officiating at the World Red Cross Day celebration here, yesterday.
The ceremony was enlivened by a presentation of warrant appointment to Wong Hie Sieng as Patron of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch while Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau, and Datuk Lau Ngie Hua were appointed as MRCS Sibu Branch Advisers.
Also held was the presentation of certificates and prizes to volunteers for the Covid-19 vaccine programme at Sibu Hospital, prizes for colouring competitions, quizzes, and posters.
Also present were MRCS Sibu Branch Chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) Chairman, Yii Souk Ming, and others.
