SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) has issued a stern warning to the public against illegal dumping of rubbish along the roadside in the Rantau Panjang area.

According to SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, the council discovered three locations where irresponsible individuals had been using as illegal dumpsites.

The areas involved are along Tanjung Kibong Road, Rantau Panjang, Tanjung Kibong 1 Road, and Tanjung Kibong 2 Road.

“The act not only violates the law but also burdens the council and causes environmental pollution, endangering the health of the surrounding residents,” he told a press conference after the a council meeting at Wisma Sanyan yesterday (March 13).

With rapid development and industrialisation, he said, the issue of illegal dumping of industrial waste, factories, and construction debris in council areas has also become a major challenge for SRDC.

“We also issue a stern warning to the contractors: Please refrain from illegally disposing of all debris, as it creates difficulties for the council,” he stressed.
