Sibu to host Simfoni Batang Rajang

SIBU: The inaugural ‘Simfoni Batang Rajang’ will be held on Oct 8-9 at Sibujaya Night Market here.

According to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, the event organised by the council will showcase cultures and traditions of the Borneo people, especially Sarawakians.

“Among the activities that we will feature are a workshop and forum on tattoo arts and sape, the Sarawak traditional music instrument,” he said during a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said tattoo art has become popular especially with regard to tribal and Borneo designs.

“Those who have good in knowledge on this craft can share their experience,” he added.

On the sape, he said the musical instrument has now become popular not only among the Orang Ulu but also the Iban, Malay, Chinese and Bidayuh.

“With our theme ‘Perpaduan Bangsa dan Budaya’ we want this event to bring all of us together,” he said.

The two day event will be officiated by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performance Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
