SIBU: Property owners in areas under the jurisdiction of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will no longer have the hardcopy assessment rate bills sent to their addresses beginning next year.

The council is appealing to property owners to register for electronic billing as the percentage of e-billing data for assessment rate is still low.

SMC said the total percentage of e-billing data for assessment rates in its system up to July 31 was only 35.13 per cent, which works out to 18,368 property holdings.

“This number is still low when compared to the number of property holdings in areas under the jurisdiction of SMC which have 52,278 property owners.

“The council once again calls on all Sibu residents who own property in Sibu but have not yet signed up for e-billing to register an email with the council,” SMC said in a statement.

The council advised ratepayers to move towards a digital economy.

“For the attention of all holding owners, SMC once again insists that by the year 2023, the council will no longer send a copy of the assessment rates bill to your address,” it added.
