PADAWAN: A single mother was arrested for allegedly selling illegal lottery yesterday (Feb 15).

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the ‘Ops Dadu’ arrest at a shop in Mile 17, Jalan Kuching-Serian here, was carried out around 3.15pm by a Criminal Investigation Division (CID) team.

“They detained a 23-year-old woman for inspection as she is believed to be involved in unlicensed public lottery sale.

“Also seized was the suspect’s phone and cash amounting to RM65,” he said.

Abang Zainal said the suspect had admitted to being an agent for unlicensed public lottery.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM200,000 or a jail term of up to five years, upon conviction.
