SIBU: Single mothers here are urged to enrol with the Sarawak Central Region Single Mothers Association (PITWITS).

Deputy Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Minister Michael Tiang Ming Tee said through the association, single mothers can gain valuable insights into government assistance programmes and discover how to access these essential resources.

“The government provides numerous programmes and assistance to single mothers to help them become more independent.

“The association is the best platform to access the various programs and assistance given by the government,” he said.

Tiang said this in his speech, read by Kapitan So Teck Kee at PITWITS’s Family Day and Student’s Incentive Presentation Ceremony here today (Oct 1).

Tiang explained that the association serves as a lifeline, connecting individuals who comprehend the unique challenges faced by single mothers. It acts as a conduit to government aid and programmes specifically designed to alleviate the burdens faced by single mothers.

“In other words, the association will open the door to a world of possibilities. Thus, I call upon all single mothers to take that step and register with the association.

Tiang acknowledged that being a single mother is often challenging, and he praised their resilience in shouldering the responsibilities of providing for their families.

“You are indeed a living example of the indomitable human spirit; juggling career, households, and the nurturing of your children with determination.

“I also understand that despite many struggles, there are those who became successful entrepreneurs, thrived in their chosen career, and their family lives.

“I believe these people were able to achieve their goals because of the support they got from the association and the government.”

A total of 19 students received education incentives at the ceremony.
