Six new positive cases detected

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded six new Covid-19 positive cases today, of which two were locally transmitted and four were imported cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said this brought the total number of cases in the state to 1,105.

The committee said of the six cases, one was reported in Lawas and the rest were in Bintulu. The status of the two districts have also changed from green to yellow zone for Covid-19 after each reported one local transmitted case.

SDMC said the Case 1,100 involved a Sarawakian woman and the case was classified as a local transmission. Before travelling to Miri to visit her family, the woman underwent the rT-PCT test on Dec 24 and the result came back positive.

The case was asymptomatic and did not have any history of travelling outside Lawas and did not come in contact with any Covid-19 positive case. The case has been referred to Miri Hospital to receive treatment.

Another locally transmitted case, Case 1,101 was reported in Bintulu which involved a man from South Africa. The case had undergone screening for factory workers in Bintulu and was screened on Dec 24 of which the result came back positive.

The case was also asymptomatic and had no history of travelling out of Bintulu or has contact with any Covid-19 positive case. He has been referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, SDMC said Case 1,102 involved a local male from Terengganu who had undergone Covid-19 screening as he had returned from a high risk area of Covid-19. The case entered Sarawak via Bintulu Airport on Dec 17 and was ordered to undergo quarantine at home as the first swab was negative for the virus.

The case then underwent a second screening on Dec 24 and was found to be positive. The case was referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment. The case has a history of visiting the Sri Petaling Mosque, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 16 before entering Sarawak.

For Case 1,103, it involved a local healthcare staff who had undergone the Covid-19 screening as he had just returned Putrajaya, a high-risk area for the virus.

The case entered Sarawak through Bintulu Airport on Dec 17 and was instructed to undergo quarantine at home. The case underwent the first swab on the same day and the test results were negative. However, the second swab on Dec 24 was found to be positive for the virus. The case was referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.

For case 1,104, it involved a male Sarawakian student who just returned from Perak, a high-risk area. The case had entered Sarawak via Bintulu Airport Dec 17 and had been instructed to undergo quarantine at home.

SDMC said the first swab on Dec 17 was tested negative, however the second swab on Dec 24 was tested positive. The case was referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.

The committee said Case 1,105 also involved a male Sarawakian student who had just returned from Kuala Lumpur, a high-risk area. The case entered Sarawak through Bintulu Airport on Dec 17 and was instructed to undergo mandatory quarantine at the quarantine centre in Bintulu.

The case underwent the first swab on Dec 17 and the test results was negative, however the second swab on Dec 24 was found to be positive. The case was referred to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.

SDMC said the case had a history of attending a religious ceremony in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur within 14 days before entering Sarawak.

All the four imported cases were categorised as Import B for getting infected when being at a Covid-19 high-risk area.

The committee also informed that there were one new recoveries and discharged cases from hospital, thus this brings the cumulative total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,062 or 96.11 percent of the total cases recorded in Sarawak.

It stated that 24 patients were currently receiving treatments at the hospitals, with ten in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), six in Miri Hospital, five in Bintulu Hospital and three in Sibu Hospital.

SDMC said, while there were six new person-under-investigations (PUI) reported no PUI are awaiting laboratory test results.
