Six rescued by firefighters amid rising waters

Six individuals, including a boy, are safely rescued by Samalaju firefighters.

BINTULU: Firefighters successfully rescued six individuals, including a young boy, after they found themselves stranded in floodwaters as they attempted to leave SK Ulu Nyalau yesterday (Nov 24).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Samalaju station were deployed to the scene to initiate the rescue operation after receiving a distress call at around 8.30 am.

They managed to assist the stranded locals get across the rising waters and take them to a safer area.

However, the rescue operation took about three hours to successfully retrieve the six individuals while overcoming the challenges posed by the rising floodwater levels.

The group comprised five adults and a boy who were attempting to navigate through the school area but were impeded by the increasing floodwaters.

The rescue team worked efficiently to escort all individuals to a secure location outside the affected school area.

As a precautionary measure, the department advises all teachers, staff, students, and residents of Kampung Ulu Nyalau to stay vigilant.

In the event that water levels continue to rise, they are urged to contact the department promptly and evacuate to higher grounds if necessary.

Regular patrols will be conducted to monitor water levels, and the rescue team stands ready to execute evacuation processes as needed.
