SERIAN: Residents of Kujang Mawang will benefit from education as a National School (SK) is set to be established in the area.

Serian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem stated that the construction of the school has already begun in the initial phase starting this year.

“Last Tuesday, I visited the site of the new school, SK Kujang Mawang, which is one of the projects under the RM1.2 billion school allocation.

“Our visit revealed that the construction has already commenced, and the contractors have started working to ensure that the construction progress is underway,” he said.

He told reporters this during the Presentation of Incentives to outstanding Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) students at Hotel Roxy, here, today.

As of 2022, the total number of primary schools in the Serian division is 99.

In other developments, Riot disclosed that the construction of the Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) is expected to be completed in March 2024.

He mentioned that the construction project is actually managed by the Ministry of Human Resources and not the Public Works Department (PWD).

“We have had meetings with the contractors from the Ministry of Human Resources, and the assigned officers have been discussing the construction progress on a monthly basis,” he said.

“Our hope is for it to be completed by March 2024, as the construction has been delayed for two years due to COVID-19,” he added.
