THE abandoned works at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Sukang in Lawas will finally be completed under the 12th Malaysian Plan’s (12MP) Rolling Plan 2.

According to Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, among the project’s work scopes would be the inspection of abandoned buildings’ structural integrity as well as slope reinforcement works.

The project will also include the construction of water treatment plants, external works and other facilities as well as the completion of abandoned structures such as the administrative block, academic block with six classrooms and canteen.

He explained the matter by saying that on March 9, the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia has conducted a thorough inspection of the site.

“They came to the conclusion that detailed structural investigation is required to validate the structural stability of the abandoned buildings.

“JKR Malaysia is in the process of hiring a consultant for this. The project direction can only be determined once the analysis is done,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Meanwhile, touching on the request to build new secondary schools, Sagah said the Ministry of Education has approved the construction of one secondary school within Bintulu town under 12MP’s Rolling Plan 2 for Tanjung Batu district.

He added the development of a new secondary school for Batu Kitang, on the other hand, is still under discussion, with numerous factors taken into account, including the expected rise in student enrolment in adjacent schools.

“However, the state Education Department has located a suitable location for it, and it will be included in the 12MP’s Rolling Plan 4,” he added.
