SMC to organise ‘Waste to Wealth’ recycling campaign

SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will organise the ‘Waste to Wealth’ campaign in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and neighbourhood watch committees (KRT) this month.

According to SMC on Tuesday (Aug 16), the campaign would be conducted on three different dates and venues as follows; JKKK & KRT Rejang Park Waste to Wealth 1.0 on Aug 20 at Rejang car park; JKKK Bukit Lima Waste to Wealth 1.0 on Aug 27 at basketball court, Jalan Bukit Lima Timur 14; KRT Nang Sang Waste to Wealth 3.0 on Aug 28 at car park, Lorong 35, Ulu Sg Merah.

“As a continuation campaign to combat climate change by reducing waste in landfills, reducing carbon emissions and collecting recyclable items, we would like to encourage residents to separate waste from home and send recyclable items to the designated collection points monthly,” the statement said.

“Cash rebate will be given after weighing the recyclable waste. The recyclable waste collected ranges from egg trays, newspapers, cardboards, books, used cooking oil, electrical goods, tins, aluminium cans and plastic bottles and containers.
