MATU: A snake will usually rub its body against rocks, trees and similar hard surfaces in the open to shed its skin. However, a gold-ringed snake decided to shed its skin inside Matu health clinic.

The incident came to light when a clinic staff came across a discarded reptilian skin in the laboratory around 8.20 am today (Jan 8).

Civil Defence Force (APM) Matu district officer Lt Jumaat Akasas said a team was dispatched to the scene to remove the snake from the clinic.

Upon arrival, the team combed the laboratory and found the 1.5-metre-long snake coiled under a cupboard.

They quickly caught the reptile using a special equipment before releasing it back to its natural habitat.

It was said that the gold-ringed snake had just shed its skin before seeking refuge in the laboratory.
