KUCHING: A snatch thief received instant karma yesterday (Feb 8) when police quickly arrested him after he grabbed a woman’s handbag in front of a bank.

He was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel who happened to be near the scene at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, here.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah confirmed the arrest last night following a video clip of the arrest going viral on Facebook.

“Acting on information, CID officers managed to arrest the 30-year-old man, who had just snatched the victim’s belongings and attempted to flee the scene on his motorcycle.

“The team recovered the victim’s belongings and confiscated a motorcycle and a set of keys believed to belong to the suspect.

“Background checks revealed that the suspect had nine prior records related to drug abuse and criminal offences,” he said.

Ahsmon added that the police will be applying for the suspect’s remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today (Feb 9).
