KUCHING: Datuk Snowdan Lawan has stressed the significance of instilling knowledge and practices of integrity from the home environment, where individuals are nurtured with good moral values by parents or guardians.

The Balai Ringin assemblyman said integrity is a universal principle meant for the betterment of society.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the ‘Kursus Modul Integriti Kepimpinan Masyarakat’ organised by the Ministry of Integrity and Ombudsman, he noted that integrity should be ingrained in individuals from an early age and is crucial for individuals who grow up to become leaders in various capacities, such as village headmen and chieftains.

“All the undertakings that we face daily somehow require some element of integrity from within oneself,” he stressed on Wednesday (March 6).

Snowdan officiated the closing ceremony of the course, attended by 38 tuai rumah (longhouse chiefs) from Pantu and Lingga districts.

He advised the community leaders to exhibit kindness, diligence, and transparency when dealing with their residents, acting as a crucial link between the people and the government.

“Listen to their voices and predicaments and assist them upon request,” he urged, emphasising their role as the bridge connecting residents with the government, working closely with elected assemblymen.

He stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in implementing government projects, policies, and grants for the people.

“Every initiative, including the Minor Rural Project (MRP) or Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), should be accounted for and explained to the people to ensure success.”

The event was attended by Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Deputy Minister for Integrity and Ombudsman; Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang, Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, and Sri Aman Deputy Resident Charlie Keling.
