KUCHING: The Social Welfare Council Sarawak (SWCS) paid Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah a courtesy call here today.

SWCS is set to be an umbrella organisation, with its vision and mission to help people with disabilities.

“I’d like to congratulate SWCS as it is transforming into an umbrella body to no less than 35 NGOs,” Fatimah said.

The minister said the NGOs would benefit as SWCS would be seeking closer collaborations with relevant ministries and agencies in the state and as the umbrella body, “SWCS should prepare services for their members as some are focused on society for the disabled, Sarawak Children Cancer Society, Catholic welfare and others.”

“In Sarawak, there is a lot to be done for people with disabilities, including easy access to facilities, mobility service and job opportunities.

“Therefore, SWCS need to carry out awareness and advocacy work for people with disabilities as it is their right to live a normal life,” she added.
