KUCHING: The 5th edition of the International Energy Week 2023 (IEW23) will be held for three days starting June 13 to 15 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said, the event will be a platform to discuss issues of energy transition, create awareness and new business opportunities to achieve the goal of net zero carbon.

“In addition, it will also open up opportunities for small and medium industry players (SMEs) to explore new technologies that can help increase their income.”

He said this at a press conference in conjunction with IEW23 themed ‘Transition Towards a Clean Zero Carbon Future’ at the Baitulmakmur Building, here on Tuesday (May 30).

Dr Hazland added that IEW23 will also discuss opportunities and studies in harnessing Sarawak’s large sustainable energy resources towards a low-carbon future in the region.

He said the gathering of leading industry experts, senior government officials and the corporate sector will also be an important platform to share experiences and explore business and investment opportunities in Borneo, especially with the development of the new Indonesian capital city of Nusantara in Kalimantan.

“The expo and summit will also help connect different groups from the energy sphere, namely the government, big players, SMEs, consultants and academia to explore ideas including opportunities in this energy transition,” he said.

The event will also provide a great opportunity for Sarawak to be at the forefront of this energy transition.

“It will open up opportunities to connect with counterparts from different parts of the world and discuss great ideas thus strengthening our relationships with friends from government, industry and academia.”

Hazland said, IEW is one of his ministry’s important events to communicate and share about the energy transition and inspire everyone to be a part of this journey.

“Prominent international leaders will share ideas on sustainable development, there will be a leadership round table discussing challenges and opportunities, a session on investment opportunities in the Green Economy as well as exciting developments in Kalimantan, especially with the establishment of Nusantara,” he explained.
