Sports Toto brings festive cheer to Perkata

KUCHING: The Sports Toto yesterday brought festive cheer to 117 underprivileged children at Perkata Special School, in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai festival.

The children were treated to a sumptuous meal and received goodie bags courtesy of Sports Toto during its goodwill visit to the school. On top of that, the school also received RM3,000 from the company.

As such, the event was part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide the underprivileged with contributions in terms of financial support to enable them to celebrate the festivity just like the rest.

The event is also part of a series of initiatives undertaken by Sports Toto for major festive seasons to reach out and support the underprivileged in the society which transcends all races.

Its senior area sales executive (Kuching) Helen Tan Puay Cheng said as a socially responsible company, giving something back to the society has always been a core value practiced by Sports Toto and believes that creating benefits to society is an integral part of an organisation’s business and operations.

“All these years, Sports Toto has made it a point to bring cheer to the less fortunate during the festive occasions as the company believes that everyone regardless of social status or background deserves a heart-warming moment during festivities.

“It is our great pleasure to celebrate the festive occasion with all of you. Sports Toto has initiated numerous campaigns as part of our efforts in giving back to society and we have been supporting the underprivileged for many years, and we are very glad to be at Perkata Special School in conjunction with the Gawai festival.

“We also hope that our contribution will bring joy to the children whilst creating public awareness of the need to help needy folks,” she added.

In addition to Perkata Special School, the Sports Toto team also spread festive cheer to its beneficiaries at the Sabah Society for Deaf in its Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Lahad Datu branches yesterday, as well as the Agape Centre in Sibu and Miri Methodist Children’s Home in Miri on May 25.

Sports Toto will also donate a total of RM18,000 to the six afore-mentioned charitable organisations in East Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Perkata Special School principal Doreen Tie in her short remark express her gratitude towards Sports Toto for their visit and contribution, which adds to the mood of the festive celebration.

“This mean a lot to us because we are a charitable organisation, any form of donation is deeply appreciated and with the donation received will help us to defray the cost, recurrent expenditure and school activities.

“We thank them for looking into our needs in order to provide for the children here and towards the advancement of education,” she said.
