KUCHING: Twenty-five people have received RM10,000 for the purchase of Sri Pertiwi Samariang Avenue homes under the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government’s Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) initiative.

Deputy Minister Michael Tiang Ming Tee shared that the scheme was in collaboration with developer Hornbill Network Consortium.

“The eligibility (for the Sri Pertiwi homes) is, applicants must be either Sarawakians or permanent residents of Sarawak from the (B40) and (M40) that have a gross household income of between RM4,000 and RM10,000 monthly.”

He also revealed that the scheme—launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Feb 7—was part of the state government’s initiative to help the B40 and M40 groups to own their first home.

“I hope there will be more affordable housing projects in the near future by local developers to cater to the B40 and M40 segments,” he said at the presentation of letters of approval to Sri Pertiwi Samariang Avenue buyers at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here on Monday (June 13).

The Sri Pertiwi single storey terrace houses are priced at RM270,000 for intermediate units and RM295,000 for corner units.

Meanwhile, managing director and chief executive officer Hanizam Hashim explained that the scheme was one of the ways to ease the process of buying a house for first-time buyers.

“This is because normally, buyers are asked to pay at least 10 per cent deposit if their full loan is not approved.

“We feel that this scheme is a wonderful effort and giving support by providing more affordable houses like this.”

The housing project is ongoing and its practical completion will be June 2023 and its full completion in September 2023.

Hornbill Networks Consortium is a wholly owned Bumiputera development company that offers various forms of housing, including single storey terrace houses, double storey terrace houses and single storey semi-detached houses. All projects focused on the B40 and M40 population in Sarawak.

The Samariang Avenue project is located at Lot 4013, Block 14, Jalan Samariang, Petra Jaya and began its site clearing in August 2020 and has received a positive response, in which all 90 units have been sold.
