KUCHING: The Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) Asia for Animals (AFA) Conference 2023 from Oct 11 to 14 here will focus on animal care and protection.

Themed ‘Education and Engagement Bring Change’, the AFA 2023 presents an opportunity to network, share experiences, and learn from practical workshops and plenaries with leading experts in the field of animal care and protection.

Previously, SSPCA had hosted an educational conference in 2015.

“Following the pandemic, we know that this will be one of our most exciting events to date with animal welfare professionals coming together once again to exchange strategies, experiences, and share knowledge across a wide range of animal protection issues,” the society said in a statement.

The AFA Conference 2023 is supported by Business Events (BE) Sarawak and is a good platform for vets, veterinarian nurses and veterinarian students, those working with animals, members of animal charities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government departments dealing with pet quarantine and animal handling as well as animal lovers and activists.

Since its inception in Manila, Philippines in 2001, the AFA conference has enabled Asia’s largest regular gathering of animal professionals, academics and scholars.

Described as a dynamic and productive forum, the conference has given birth to many new partnerships and ideas for tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges in animal protection.

Registration for the conference will open in March and updates on the event will be shared on its social media channels.
