Stampin MP says federal allocation for his constituency fully accounted for

Chong conducts a briefing on the utilisation of allocation given to his Stampin parliamentary constituency.

KUCHING: The utilisation rate for the allocations given to Stampin parliament constituency was 99.4 per cent as of December last year, with most of the money spent on education, benefiting families and children in the area.

Its Member of Parliament (MP) Chong Chieng Jen said like all other parliamentary service centres, Stampin was granted two allocations, namely the RM2.2 million as the Outright Grant (OG) allocation and another RM2 million for Project Mesra Rakyat (PMR).

As of Dec 15, last year, he said, Stampin has given out RM2,194,807 of its OG allocation and approved RM1,981.400 of the PMR allocation.

“In another word, we have utilised 99.4 per cent of the allocation for the people; as it is our pledge that what is taken from the people (tax payers money) is used for the people,” he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters here today.

Chong, who is also the Sarawak DAP chairman and Padungan assemblyman, said the press conference was held to provide details of the usage of the parliamentary constituency allocation for his constituency granted by the federal government, in the spirit of transparency and accountability

Under the PMR allocation, a total of 28 applications were approved, involving RM1,941,400 (98 per cent), which was used for education purposes, for instances, to provide Smart TVs and hardware upgrading of the teaching facilities in schools, while RM40,000 was for the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of a kampung in the constituency, he said.

For the OG allocation, he said, there were l882 applications approved.

Of these applications, RM1,078,300 (49.1 per cent) was for education purposes, RM937,007.95 (42.7 per cent) for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and charitable activities while the remaining RM179,500 (8.2 per cent) was for healthcare purpose.

“In gist, for the total constituency allocation (combining OG and PMR) of RM4.2 million, RM3,019,700 (72.3 per cent) was for education purpose, RM977,007.95 (23.4 per cent) for NGOs and charity purposes and RM179,500 (4.3 per cent) for healthcare purposes,” he added.
