State government receives RM55m allocation

KUCHING: The Sarawak government has received an allocation of RM55,077,514.20 from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), courtesy of the Federal Government.

During a brief ceremony held at Raia Hotel, after sending off the Sarawak Hajj pilgrims on Wednesday night, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Setia Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, handed a replica cheque to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The allocation is intended for Imams, Bilal, Marbut, Guru Takmir, and Guru KAFA, who play a crucial role in maintaining and advancing Islam in the state. Abang Johari also received a souvenir as a memento from Mohd Na’im.

The ceremony was attended by Sarawak Financial Secretary, Datuk Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Satok Assemblyman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Sarawak Islamic Council Chairman, Datuk Misnu Taha, Mufti Sarawak Sahibus Samahah, Datuk Kipli Yasin, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department director, Khalidi Ibrahim, and other dignitaries.

Earlier, the Premier was present to bid farewell to the first group of 142 Hajj pilgrims from Sarawak at the hotel convention hall.
