KUCHING: A state-level series 1 of the ‘Pendidikan Alam Sekitar untuk Guru Penasihat Kelab Pencinta Alam Sekitar (PALS)’ has been held at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu since Monday (June 19).

The organisers are Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), in collaboration with the Sarawak State Education Department and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

State Environmental Quality Controller, Jack Liam officiated at the opening ceremoney.

In attendance were also Mahmood Long, Senior Environment manager from SEB; Penny Sumok, head of Environmental Education and Publicity Section from NREB; Dau Utau, head of NREB Sibu Office; and Jeremy Ling Beng Leh from PPD Sibu.

The workshop, which is scheduled to end today (June 22), is attended by 62 PALS Club advisory teachers from 19 PPDs in the districts of Kuching, Lundu, Bau, Padawan, Samarahan, Serian, Simunjan, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Betong, Saratok, Maradong, Sarikei, Kanowit, Mukah, Song, Kapit, Selangau, and Sibu.

This workshop aims to strengthen the skills and delivery of environmental education by PALS Club advisory teachers who have never attended such a workshop before. Workshops like this have been run by NREB since 2015 and, in total, more than 700 PALS Club teacher advisors have been trained through similar workshops since then.

The workshop includes the introduction and testing of NREB’s environmental modules. Among the outdoor modules implemented at this workshop are the Eco-Friendly User Module, the Traffic Module, the Forest Products Module, the Urban Pollution Module, and Plogging.

The indoor modules cover topics such as The Greed to Win, Hunter-Judge-Tiger, Mangrove Swamp Ecosystem, and Nature Tic-Tac, Eco-brick Study, and Green Practice Module.

In addition, an invited facilitator presents a lecture session exposing the participants to the Environmental Melody module and the production of goods from waste materials.

Furthermore, this workshop provides a platform for teachers to provide feedback on the implementation of the PALS Club in schools. This feedback will enable teachers to plan and implement environmental activities effectively.
