State level Quran recital from Feb 25-28

KUCHING: The Al-Quran Tilawah (recital) and Hafazan (memorisation) for Sarawak level competition is scheduled to take place from Feb 25 to 28.

Assistant Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the annual competition was organised since the 1960s and its absence for the past two years was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year’s theme is Manhaj Rabbani Ummah Berkualiti and the competition will take place at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall.

“The objectives of the competition are to enhance the spirit of love towards Al-Quran among Muslims and to produce more Qari and Qariah of calibre in the state while creating a healthy competition for the participants.

“Besides that, the competition also aims to enhance and strengthen the efforts as well as goals of dakwah towards well-founded faith along with setting exemplary good deeds and noble characteristics,” he said told reporters at the Sarawak Islamic Complex here today.

Dr Abdul Rahman said there were 23 participants from throughout the state taking part in this year’s competition.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be officiating at the competition on Feb 27 while the closing and prize presentation ceremony will be attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud the next day.

Attractive prizes await the winners. For example, the winner for Al-Quran Tilawah will bring home RM10,000 cash, an Umrah trip, a challenge trophy, a gift and a certificate.

There are also cash prizes for winners in other categories.

Winners will represent Sarawak at the national level.
