KUCHING: The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board’s (LAKMNS) achieved its dream of having its own identity with the launching of the agency’s official flag and colours (bendara dan panji-panji).

LAKMNS chief executive officer Datuk Abang Wahap Abang Julai said the flag and colours will be used during the board’s upcoming official events in the future.

The flag and colours will also contribute to better recognition at all places and in line with LAKMNS’s vision of being a world-class Islamic board, he pointed out.

He said this during the launching ceremony of the LAKMNS flag and colours at the main porch of Masjid Jamek yesterday (Mar 25).

“LAKMNS had the intention of identifying ourselves through a creation of a flag to symbolise our identity. With the launching of the flag and colours, they symbolise our strength and readiness in providing services to the community.

“The colour bright yellow carries the meaning of firm, cheerful and optimistic as well as illustrating loyalty to the king and ruler.

“Our logo is in the centre of the flag with a green square which symbolises integrity with line rotation in gold which reflects inclusiveness in our comprehensive efforts.

“The kufi writing (tulisan kufi) represents LAKMNS (lam, alif, kaf, mim, nun and sin) while the dark green means strict and strength as a leader in the construction of the Ummah,” he explained.

On another note, he also expressed his excitement on how the launching is in conjunction with the 214th Malaysian Royal Police Day celebration.

Prior to the launching ceremony, Abang Wahap inspected the parade of 30 auxiliary policemen led by Sergeant Major Ahmad Tomizi Othaman before the procession of the flag and colours which was then handed over to Sergeant Major Bahron Judin to be raised on the flag pole.

“The responsibilities and sacrifices of auxiliary policemen is no different from policemen who are on duty in the field. This is because they also shoulder important responsibilities and tasks especially in guarding the security of assets and users at the location of LAKMNS’ assets.

“Therefore, I am very grateful and would like to thank you for the sacrifices made. I hope that you will continue to have high spirit, wise mind and strong faith in carrying out your duties in excellence,” he added.
