KUCHING: The 12th Sarawak state election could be held in November, said Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin.

The Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities said he based his prediction on current political mood.

“Well, the Chief Minister already said that it is a long way to go. So, I don’t think the election will be anytime soon.

“But when I went everywhere for the last few weeks, I saw there were flags already lining the roads. It’s looks like we are in the mood for election. I think the state election would most probably be held in November,” he said when posed the question during a cheque presentation ceremony and site visit at St Francis Xavier church, at Kpg Seratau in Siburan on Sunday.

He assured that he would work together to provide support to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ruling coalition in the next state election.

“My commitment to provide support is for the wellbeing of the people,” said the former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) MP who quit the party in March and announced he was supporting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Asked if he has joined any component party under the PN coalition, Willie said that he has yet to decide joining any political party.

“So far, I have not joined any party, but I am friendly to PN and I am also friendly to GPS.

“I am still independent, but due to technical reason, I am under PN,” he added.
