State records 1,503 new cases, 98.74 percent in categories 1,2

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 1,503 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Oct 6), pushing the cumulative tally to 219,629 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 1,484 cases or 98.74 percent comprised those in Category 1 and 2 while 19 cases or 1.26 percent were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

“There were 395 cases or 26.28 percent in Category 1 (no symptoms) and 1,089 cases or 72.46 percent in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

“Category 3 (lung infections) had four cases or 0.27 percent while Category 4 (lung infection and require oxygen) had two cases or 0.13 percent. There were 13 cases or 0.86 percent in Category 5 (lung infections and require ventilator),” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 6).

The district of Kuching accounted for 427 of the new cases recorded followed by Miri (203); Bau (159); Sibu (154); Samarahan (70); Bintulu (68); Limbang (53); Serian (36); Kapit (30); Sarikei (29); Betong (26); Sri Aman (25); Daro (24); Belaga (21); Mukah (18); 16 each in Lawas and Asajaya; Saratok (14); Pakan (13); 12 cases each in Simunjan, Kanowit and Marudi; Meradong (11) and Song (10).

There were four cases in Lundu, Lubok Antu, Julau and Pusa respectively; three each in Kabong and Telang Usan; two each in Selangau, Tebedu, Bukit Mabong, Sebauh and Dalat; one each in Tatau, Beluru and Matu.

Meanwhile, SDMC announced the end of Lemujan Cluster in Pakan district after no new case was recorded or reported in the past 28 days involving this cluster.

“Six clusters namely Long Urun Cluster, Opar Cluster, Bungey 2 Cluster, Tembok Limbang Cluster, Kampung Segedup Cluster and Sibuluh-Nowang Cluster recorded new cases while the other 87 clusters did not.

The state currently has 93 active Covid-19 clusters.
