KUCHING: Sarawak recorded six new positive Covid-19 cases — all in Kuching district today, bringing the cumulative tally of cases in the state thus far to 942.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said case 937 was detected in the Greenhill Cluster, involving an Indonesian woman who was a helper to the family of case 818, who was reported on Oct 27.

“The case underwent her first screening reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on Oct 27 through close contact detection activities, but the test was negative,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 update press conference today.

Uggah said the case’s second screening test on Wednesday had returned positive, adding that she had not shown any symptoms.

“The case also did not have a history of returning to her country of origin or to high-risk Covid-19 infection areas in the country within the last three months,” he said.

Three of the cases were detected within the Wisma Saberkas Cluster, with case 938 being a local man who underwent self-screening at a private hospital on Wednesday as he had visited a premise at Wisma Saberkas.

“His rT-PCR test returned positive for Covid-19 on the same day,” said Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman.

He said case 940 was a local man who underwent Covid-19 screening at a private medical laboratory as he had close contact with case 932, who was reported on Wednesday.

He added that case 941 was a local woman who underwent self-screening at a private laboratory on Wednesday after visiting Wisma Saberkas.

The three cases from the Wisma Saberkas Cluster did not show any signs or symptoms.

He said case 939 was a local woman who underwent self-screening at a private hospital here on Wednesday as she felt unwell.

“Her rT-PCR test was positive on the same day,” said Uggah, adding that the case did not have a travel history overseas or to high-risk Covid-19 infection areas in the country within the past three months.

On the sixth case, case 942, he said this involved a local woman who underwent Covid-19 screening at a government health clinic as she had been experiencing fever and cough symptoms since Oct 30.

He said the case was an employee at a gymnasium here and did not have a history of visiting overseas or to high-risk Covid-19 infection areas within the country in the past three months.

All the cases reported were admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

He said 12 cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals today, of which 11 were discharged from SGH and one from Bintulu Hospital — bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 789 or 83.76 percent.

“Twenty-one person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported while three are still awaiting laboratory results,” he said.

He added that 147 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) were checked into hotels today to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 26 hotels to 2,288 while 29,603 had completed their quarantine period.
