KUCHING: Sarawak will work with various stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society and international partners, to achieve the state’s sustainability goals.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said by leveraging expertise and resources which can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future, Sarawak will create new economic opportunities and promote social development while at the same time protect the environment.

“To achieve a net-zero future, Sarawak will prioritise the development of renewable energies such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power.

“The state has abundant natural resources that can be harnessed to provide clean and sustainable energy for its people,” he said.

Abang Johari also added that innovation is crucial for the state’s net-zero future, and the state will encourage the development of new technologies and solutions that can reduce greenhouse gas emission and promote sustainable practices.

“This includes the adoption of Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technology, which can help reduce emissions from key industries such as oil and gas,” he said.
