KUCHING: The ‘Your Essential Guide to Strata Management and Maintenance in Sarawak’ seminar will be extended by one more session to accommodate the overwhelmingly positive response by members of the property industry and related professional groups.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) Michael Tiang Ming Tee said to date over 600 people comprising property developers, property managers, the legal profession, surveyors, architects, local authorities, bankers, real estate agents, and parcel owners from Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, and Sibu have participated in the seminar.

He said there is already a waiting list of 150 people for the final seminar session.

“The demand for this seminar reflects the urgency and importance of the seminars. The material presented aims to assist in the management and maintenance of strata-titled properties, promotes effective administrative procedures within each development, gives a sense of safety, security and assurance to its occupants and generally adds value to and improves standards and expectations of strata living.

“If properly implemented, rules, processes and procedures are foundational towards encouraging potential homeowners to actively consider strata-titled properties.

“Although Sarawakians generally tend to prefer landed properties, with clear regulations for strata management and maintenance in place, Sarawak may experience an upward trend of strata-titled properties and developments,” he said during the seminar’s official closing ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

For the record, the series of seminars is a jointly-organised project by Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA), MPHLG, and Land and Survey Department Sarawak (L&S) to explain salient points and guide stakeholders through relevant provisions of the Strata Management Ordinance 2019, Strata (Management and Maintenance) Regulations 2022 and the Strata (Subsidiary Titles) Ordinance 2019, which came into effect earlier this year.

The final seminar will take place on Sept 12 and Sept 13 in Kuching.
