KOTA SAMARAHAN: A student had a close call with danger during fire in a classroom at Taska SeDidik, University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) at Jalan Ensurai today.

The fire, which started around 12.45 pm from an air conditioner, caused minor injuries to one student while leaving the room.

Teachers at the scene quickly gave first aid to the student.

Thankfully, everyone else in the classroom, including the teachers, were safe and unhurt.

The quick and effective response from the teachers led to the rapid extinguishing of the fire. They used four dry dust extinguishers, and the activation of the sprinkler system further aided the extinguishing process.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that they received a distress call about the incident and dispatched firemen from the Kota Samarahan fire station to the scene.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that almost five per cent of the ceiling cassette air conditioner was damaged by the fire.

The team conducted thorough inspections and monitored the situation to ensure there was no risk of fire reigniting before concluding their operation.
