LAWAS: Volunteers of Future Ocean Borneo aim to inspire school children by creating awareness on marine life conservation and sustainable management.

On Friday, a group of five volunteers, led by its founder Iqbal Abdollah, have reached out to 50 pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Tukon here to give a talk on conservation, education and public awareness on marine environment (Cepa).

According to Iqbal, the awareness programme was part of their marine environment conservation while engaging the local community to lead the charge and stop plastic pollution.

“We want to protect endangered marine life and at the same time, raise students’ awareness on its uniqueness and diversity,” he said.

He added that it is necessary to teach children from an early age on why they must keep their surroundings, especially the beach and river, free from pollution.

The programme was a first to be held outside of Miri since the inception of Future Ocean Borneo back in January this year.
