KUCHING: Students are on board with the state government’s decision to close schools and other education institutions  in order to control the spread of Covid-19 among students and educators.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi AbangJohari Tun Openg  announced the closing of schools and education institutions for 14 days in red zone districts starting from April 20 until May 3.

Some students in boarding schools and college dormitories have to stay put until May 3 as learning session continues online.

I am sad because we cannot continue with the physical classes for two weeks. I cannot meet my friends who are still in the school dormitory or my teachers. Nevertheless, the decision is appropriate to contain the spread of Covid-19. My safety and the safety of my friends are top priorities.

Closing the schools and institutions of higher learning for two weeks is one way of containing  Covid-19. I rarely go out from the university so I often order food delivery services when I’m hungry. Two weeks will fly by quickly. My safety comes first.

I support the action taken by the government. I am worried about the Covid-19 cases which are increasing daily, especially in the red zone areas. The school closure  is the best decision as safety is really a concern for everyone, especially  students who are living in college dormitories or at boarding schools.

I am really positive the school closure is the only way to control the spread of the virus among students, especially the younger ones in kindergartens and primary schools. Health and safety are top priorities at this time in our state.

The closing of education institutions is expected as Covid-19 cases are increasing. It will be hard for some of us to have online classes and some of us need  to do practicals in labs. However, the decision  is necessary as it can minimise the infection rate and stop the virus from spreading among  schoolchildren.

Because of the rising Covid-19 cases and the infection in schools,  schools and other education institutions were expected  to close. The decision was the right move to minimise the spread of the infection. Even though we have to stay put in our dormitories, safety still comes first.

I am concerned because the school closure will affect our learning sessions  and not everyone can adapt to the new situation. Still, it was the right call because of the  fear of the virus spreading among  students and university undergraduates. I believe it is the only  way to fight off the virus at the moment.
