Subsidies shift to ensure affordable rice

MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Affairs (KPDN) is being urged to redirect half of the current subsidies for goods towards subsidising rice.

Miri MP, Chiew Choon Man, said this would ensure it remains affordable for the public.

Speaking to reporters during the launch of the Malaysia Madani convoy in celebration of Malaysia Day today (Sept 16), Chiew said the potential of implementing a weekly “Jualan Rahmah” for 10kg rice bags as a result of this change in subsidy reallocation.

During the same event, Chiew distributed 200 free RM5 fuel vouchers to the convoy at the Petronas petrol station in Senadin, which included a total of 58 motorcyclists making several stops before concluding at Miri City Hall in Marina.

Additionally, another batch of 200 free fuel vouchers was distributed at two petrol stations at Luak and Miri By-pass road, respectively.

Following the convoy event, Chiew officiated the “Jualan Rahmah” at a supermarket in Taman Jade Manis at Old Man Street here.
