KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports (SUKSAR) 2017 Games will be held at 14 different venues in Kuching and Samarahan Division from December 14 to 17. Most events will take place at the State Stadium Complex, Petra Jaya.
Weightlifting will be held from December 14 to 17 at the Indoor Stadium Kuching South Council (MBKS). Badminton (15-16 December) will take place at Unimas, Kota Samarahan and cycling (December 14-16) at FAC Matang and Bukit Siol. Handball will be held at Unimas, Kota Samarahan (December 14-17) and lawn bowl (December 15-16) at Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena.
Judo (December 15-16) will take place at the Stadium Perpaduan and karate at Sekolah Tunku Putra (December 15-16). Archery will be held at the Archery Field, Petra Jaya (December 14-17 ), Muay Thai at The Summer Shopping Mall (December 14-17) , athletics at the Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya (December 14-17) and petanque at Arena Petanque Sarawak, Santubong (December 14-17).
Rugby 7-A-Side event will be at Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field, Padungan (December 15-16), swimming at Pandalela Rinong Aquatic Center (December 14-17 ) and women’s sepak takraw at PSS Sepak Takraw Hall, Petra Jaya (December 14-17). However, the venue for four sports events involving paralympic athletes has also been set up with archery at the Petra Jaya Shooting Range (December 14-17), athletics at the Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya (December 15-17), power lifting at the MBKS Indoor Stadium (December 14-17) and swimming at Pandalela Rinong Aquatic Center (December 15-17). 828 athletes will participate in the SUKSAR 2017 with South Zone (Kuching, Samarahan & Serian) sending the largest contingent of 235.C entral Zone (Sibu, Kapit & Mukah) is sending 220 athletes, North Zone (Miri, Bintulu, Limbang) 200.
Western Zone (Sarikei, Betong & Sri Aman) has registered 173 athletes. Athletes and coaches will stay at the SUKSAR sports village, Rafflesia College, Unimas, Kota Samarahan while technical and team personnel will put up at Intan Training Center, Koat Samarahan. The opening ceremony will be on December 14 at the Stadium Perpaduan, Petra Jaya followed by the closing ceremony on December 17 at the same venue.
