SARAWAK has again been accorded a clean bill of health for its superb public accounts for 2018.  This makes it the 17th consecutive year that the state is posting a clean record.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the record was testimony to the state’s sound financial management and good governance.

“We will continue to inculcate and instill good financial governance and discipline as an integral principle of our work culture in managing state’s finances.

“Good governance demands from us accountability, transparency, compliance and integrity,” he said in his winding-up speech yesterday.

Uggah, who is also a deputy chief minister, said it was even more imperative now for Sarawak to strive and sustain the record while pursuing its strategic development agenda.

On the preparation for the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025), he said it was a critical phase for Sarawak to craft its development agenda with a clear strategic direction to ensure an inclusive, balanced and sustainable development for the next five years.

“Therefore, the Sarawak government will continue to focus on developing the state and creating wealth for the well-being of the people.

“However, this would not be possible if the people are disunited by racial/communal conflicts and hatred. If this happened, all our efforts would be laid to waste,” he said.
